I am 0.1.0. TAI O station.
At 14.45 hours on 12.9.41 I saw from
my verandah a motor boat, going at a very fast speed approaching PO TE TAM, from a south westerly direction. As it closer I say that it was a decked over motor boat flying the Japanese Naval ensign. My own motor boat was alongside at the time so I decided to put off immediately. When going down to my own boat I noticed that the Japanese was about of mile off Bluff point. Ás soon as I was clear of the Fier and in view of the other boat it immediately put about and headed to
I followed for about a raile and then the other I kept a parallel coures for about ý a mile at a distance of about 2 miles. She then turned north and I also went about. Then I was due west of the station the Japanese boat was well ahead of me and going north so I decided to come in and report. I reported to the 8.8.P.X. at about 15.15 hours.
boat turned south.
When finishing my report I was called by some Indians outside and on rushing out I saw that the Japanese boat had taken in tow a two masted junk. Then I saw the motor boat and the junk they appeared to be between YIN PAI ROOK and TEE O point. In fact they must have been at the Tai O side of a line drømm between these two points because they passed outside the rock and then altered course to west. I again reported to 8.8.P.K. and received certain instructions fran him.
The rock mentioned is known to Chinese
as the YIN PAI ROCK. According to chart No. 1180 "Approaches to HONG KONG" this reak is about 1 nautical miles from Tai o station and about 3/5 of a nautical mile from YKK O POINT.1.0.2.2/5 nautical miles inside territorial waters. I kept the Motor Dont and junk under observation until shortly after 17.00 hours. Both were headed for Umamo until I lost sight of them. Between 15.45 and 16.45 they passed in close proximity to a Japanese trawler and two motor junks (presumably Japanese) which did not interfere with them. Up to date I have been unable to trace the junk or its occupents etc. It seems probable that the jun: was on its way into Tai O but I have been unable to find any one who took any particular notice of it until this incident took place. I have painted out to 0.1.0. No.3 Launch P.8.A.48 MAX the place where the junk was taken in tow and he says that if I am showing him the correct spot it is well inside territorial waters.
